Council Chairman

As we celebrate the 30th anniversary of The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), I would like to express my deep gratitude to my predecessors as well as all Council members past and present. Thanks to their vision and dedication, the University has developed into an institution that prepares future teachers and professionals to become responsible and caring change agents, equipped to meet the changes and challenges ahead.

University education is not merely defined in terms of facilities and infrastructure, but also embodied by its people, mission and history. EdUHK was built on the foundation of a century-old heritage of education, and teaching remains at the very core today, with its crucial role in guiding students’ personal growth and moral development. Graduates of EdUHK and the former teacher training colleges have become pillars in the education field, nurturing generations of young people who contribute to Hong Kong, serve the nation, and connect to the world. We achieve this in the classroom and through field experience locally, in the Greater Bay Area, Mainland China and overseas, so that our students become familiar with people from many different backgrounds.

Thirty is an age of experience, self-awareness and responsibility (三十而立). These qualities enable EdUHK to continue to employ our collective knowledge and pedagogy for the benefit of the whole community. We remain committed to nurturing outstanding and caring educators and professionals who contribute constructively to meeting societal needs, as well as ensuring our high-quality research and scholarship is transferred effectively. This is achieved by embracing modern technologies, while leveraging on our rich educational heritage, traditional strengths and strong alumni network.

I would like to extend my gratitude to all the key stakeholders involved in the development of the University over the last 30 years, including the Government, community leaders, donors and alumni for their commitment, funding and support. This has helped us turn into reality the vision of a university dedicated to offering academic and research programmes on teacher education and complementary disciplines. With their unfailing support, I have no doubt that we will continue to thrive, holding true to our vision, mission and core values.
