Distinguished Lecture Series: The Future of Globalisation

With the threat of de-risking investment, decoupling trade and disruption to the supply chain, questions have been raised as to whether decades of globalisation through free trade in the purest Ricardian form would be replaced with the return of 1930s-type protectionism; or whether there could be an alternative approach, perhaps through the balancing influences of the European Union and emerging economies. This has become all the more pertinent in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, as nations and regions struggle to seek and sustain economic growth. As a former Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, Mr Lamy will give his unique insight into the future for global commerce and the form it may take.
